Faith & values

What we believe shapes how we live.

Our faith is founded on Jesus Christ and on the testimony of the Bible. Some convictions shape our understanding of church in a particular way.

The Bible & spiritual gifts

Word and Spirit belong together.

The Bible is the binding foundation for faith, teaching and church life. At the same time, we expect the Holy Spirit to be at work today.

  1. 01

The Bible as our binding standard

Experiences, teaching and spiritual impressions must be tested against Scripture.

  2. 02

The Spirit is at work today

We expect him to be at work today – in gifts that seem natural, such as teaching, leading, encouragement, mercy, helping and discernment, as well as in visibly supernatural action.

  3. 03

    Not everyone has every gift

The Holy Spirit distributes his gifts differently. No gift makes one person more important than another.

  4. 04

    Gifts need character

Being gifted is not a sign of maturity. Gifts belong within love, accountability and the testimony of Scripture.

Spiritual gifts are not for self-promotion, but for building up the church.

Explicitly including

Healing. Prophecy. Tongues.

Our emphasis remains: rooted in the Bible and open to the work of the Holy Spirit.

Shared & servant leadership

Responsibility is carried together.

A church should not depend on a single strong personality. That is why we understand leadership as fundamentally shared and, at the same time, as service.

  1. 01

    Elders and deacons lead together

Decisions about direction are made together, not by one individual.

  2. 02

    Perspectives complement each other

Different gifts and experiences share responsibility – and protect the church.

  3. 03

    Leadership remains correctable

Those who lead remain approachable and accountable.

  4. 04

    Authority means service

Not lording it over people, but taking responsibility for them, equipping them and not binding them to oneself.

For us, leadership is not a status but responsibility and service.

Our Jewish roots

The Christian faith cannot be separated from Israel.

  1. 01

The Bible is Jewish in character

Jesus and the apostles were Jews, and the Bible tells God’s story with Israel.

  2. 02

    God’s election still stands

We believe that God’s election of Israel has not simply been revoked.

  3. 03

    Not a special political topic

We do not equate political decisions with God’s action.

  4. 04

    Relationships rather than positions

Over many years, journeys, friendships and practical encounters have grown.

Our guiding question remains: how does God see things?

Discipleship & maturity

Jesus calls us to follow him.

  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Forbearance
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control
  1. 01

    Character before position

Maturity does not show itself first in knowledge, position or extraordinary experiences.

  2. 02

    Accompanying rather than only deploying

Church should be a place where people are accompanied and grow together.

  3. 03

    Growth is possible

A person can be very gifted and still have areas where growth is needed.

  4. 04

    Following Jesus in everyday life

Discipleship does not only happen in courses but in the middle of shared life.

Being gifted is not the same as being mature.
